We were staying at the Los Altos resort and came here our first night and it was AMAZING. Great happy hour, specialty drinks, food. The night we were there was a strike of luck since they had live music and local dancing. Price per person: ₡45,000–50,000 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Yes, there were some Dietary restrictions: They asked about allergies and restrictions

Unfortunately we dined here on our last night in Costa Rica. Maybe we had a disappointing time because we were not staying at the hotel, and just came to the restaurant for dinner and the staff prioritize hotel guests above all else, but in any case, we had terrible service all around at our dinner. None of the staff paid attention to our table and we constantly had to politely stop anyone who was passing by to request drinks, water or to even take our food order. We had gluten free guests that night and our servers were not confident in the menu for gluten free adjustments. We were very patient but we were not even able to order a second round of drinks in a two hour time period of sitting at our table. It was not a great way to end our fabulous trip to Costa Rica. As someone with severe gluten and nuts allergies I highly recommend Karolas Restaurant! Our server, Dorlyn, was excellent and when I let him know about my allergies he explained they have a dedicated fryer for gluten free and even fresh gluten free bread! He did predice that I would have to wait a little bit for them to turn the fryer on and bake the bread etc but I didn’t notice anything longer than typical, no problem at all. The restaurant seems to really go above and beyond for gluten allergies, especially compared to other restaurants close by. I had the traditional casada de carne and I wish I had brought a bigger appetite because there were many options for me! Overall, if you’re gluten free rest assured you’ll be taken care of and I bet with other food restrictions too. Price was also very competitive to nearby restaurants especially considering the upscale “vibe” I’d say it’s a great deal for a nice meal in Manuel Antonio.
