All of the dishes in the omakase we had were quite good. The service was good, got tired of the canned spiel for every explanation of the dishes. The music is too loud. Could not even hear the person sitting next to me. There is only valet parking, it was $10 when I visited. This isn't the restaurant's fault but the valet also left a bunch of greasy hand prints on my windows and windshield, put the car in sport mode, and the dash cam footage shows him gunning it down the parking lot way too fast for no reason. Be mindful of that if you want to come eat here. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2 Price per person: $100+

Weird server who kept regurgitating house lines "fresh from toyosu fish market in the heart of Tokyo" was said verbatim about 4 times. Certain dishes were incredible. The scallop crudo and miso sushi were a standout. Tried the oyster with uni for fun, don't see much appeal in it, not really worth it. The lobster was also not something we would get again. At one point in the meal we were looking at the wine list to see what the had, because we were curious more than anything. Only to be sharply dismissed by our passing waiter who, somewhat sternly, told us that those bottles were only for VIPs and were likely not even in stock so there wasn't any point in looking at them. Why even have them on the menu then? Because the bottles are rare and the majority probably wouldn't inquire and so they make the restaurant feel fancy, is my assumption after that encounter. This left a bad taste in my mouth. There's a lot of good sushi in Houston and I think we'll spend money at restaurants that make us feel like VIPs rather than remind us, unasked, that we aren't VIPs. We’re huge fans of Kata Robata! Especially their omakakase. Being very avid home cooks, world travelers, and all around foodies, we know great sushi. At first, we couldn’t get a resy at Katami because they only took American Express. Then the Friday before we wanted a reservation, my fiancé checked again and they opened it up to all. How off putting that was. Immediately upon being seated, I was sweating. The host said sorry they’re looking into getting the AC fixed. I wanted to leave right then, but decided to suck it up and enjoy our date. The server asked if we were celebrating anything. I told him our engagement. Not sure why he asked since that meant nothing for the evening. He helped us with questions; sold us a 140$ bottle of saki; encouraged us to have the toro crudo and yet it never came. We had to ask about it after our 1st app and 2 rolls. We also ordered the premier sashimi for 2. Our final bill was over 400$ before tip. Everything was just okay. Un memorable. And it was at least 79 degrees in there. My scores are higher than deserved. The 4 toro app pictured first - don’t order it. That seared one tasted so fishy.
