Nestled on the quaint street of Higashinihonbashi, Kibundo is a unique spot in Chuo that offers an array of Japanese traditional sweets, with a notable focus on donuts. The establishment gained a reputation for crafting sweets with both white and red bean pastes; however, attractions include creations like the manju, ningyoyaki, and dorayaki. Though the texture and aroma of these delicacies can be hit or miss for visitors, some swear by the soothing flavors of items with white bean paste. Despite these offerings, personal tastes vary, and guests may have mixed experiences with moisture levels in certain sweets.
Currently, there is some uncertainty surrounding Kibundo's operations. The most recent reviews, dated two years ago, indicated intentions of temporary closure with little information on reopening. Visitors in the past have praised the reasonable pricing and charming service complete with a touch of nostalgia, particularly highlighted by the use of traditional packaging methods.
Accessibility for those with limited mobility seems uncertain given that no wheelchair-accessible parking options exist. Planning your visit as a "quick stop" is suggested, keeping in mind its operational schedule from Monday to Friday, beginning early in the morning until evening, and slightly reduced hours on Saturdays. Collectively, while the bakery holds a charm with its old-school aura, potential visitors may want to verify its current status before dropping by.

Manju with white rice bean paste Bean paste bun Ningyoyaki with strained bean paste Dorayaki with grained red bean paste I bought 4 types. I like the white bean paste manju the mostIt's very delicious with a similar aroma and firm texture to the white bean paste ningyo-yaki at the main store I don't like white bean paste, but Kibundo's is in a class of its own. I'm happy that the price is reasonable I think I'll pass by. . The shop owner is very nice and will place your order in a small, old-fashioned white paper bag. Personally, I don't recommend dorayaki because it doesn't have enough moisture for me.
