I don’t usually leave reviews but really felt the need to forewarn future customers of Killara Estate. We booked in 11 adults for a set menu at $43 a head (a total close to $500) and left really disappointed. The servings were incredibly mean and we didn’t even receive all items on the menu. Included were 5 small pizzas (only one with meat- salami), 3 very small platters of vegetarian antipasto and 2 small dishes of vegetarian pasta (literally enough for 1-2 shells of tortellini and one tablespoon of gnocchi each) for the entire table. That was it. For $480.

The views are beautiful but the venue is tired and retro with wood paneling and a ‘70s vibe. If you’re considering a winery in the Yarra Valley there are many better options.

Went on a winery tour and had lunch at Killara Estate. Amazing service and food, beautiful antipasto platters and stunning view! Will definitely be returning

Return customers (been there over 8 times as we love the food and ambiance). Booked by phone and email for 1pm on Sunday (emails acknowledged by staff) specifically requested a table indoors near the window for guests from Margaret river region. Drove over 1.5 hours to get to the vineyard and only to be told - sorry we have given out your table as we thought it was a 12 noon booking.

No tables indoors so offered a table outside near the fire place, however food went cold within minutes due to the winter like temperature in the outside seating area. Left over half a platter due to this which is a shame as we had raved about the food to our guests and it was a waste of money too.

When I went to pay the bill and spoke with the owner - Leo, was told "at least you got in" which is rather arrogant and appalling. No apology, no offering of a complimentary glass of wine (which would have cost him nothing!!!!

I understand it is difficult to get a table at times as it is a popular place for functions and to spend an afternoon sipping a glass of vino and a nice platter, however there are a vast number of vineyards in the Yarra Valley that deserve our patronage and money so will not be going back there in a hurry.
All they had to do was as a gesture of goodwill - offer a glass of complimentary vino to make up for the stuff up.
Oh and don't ask Leo the owner for a wine tasting if you are coming in for a meal in case you want to try it out before ordering - he gets quite "iffy" about it and gives you either quarter centimeter of wine or says no time as we have wine tasting groups that have come in. So much for promoting their vineyard and so much for service - extremely disappointed.
