FIRST OFF: I LOVED how family oriented this place is. As for the food, I've definitely had better. I recently visited Kim Chau Restaurant on a Friday for lunch after reading their reviews on yelp. I was craving a good bowl of Bun Bo Hue and this place sounded like theirs was great! I'm always down for trying new restaurants and is a firm believer that mom-and-pop shops are usually the best! This place is located off Silber and Long Point near the Marq-E center in old spring branch. The place is definitely nothing fancy, it could highly use a renovation and housecleaning but it still provides a great atmosphere! You'd feel comfy putting your feet up and eating as if you were at home. If I could review this place merely on customer service and atmosphere, they'd get 4 or 5 stars! Service was super quick and attentive. I ordered spring rolls, a large bowl of bun bo hue and an ice tea. Now, this is where this review will probably get sour. I honestly thought the ice tea was probably the best thing out of the three I ordered. The spring rolls did not look fresh. I know it was made fresh, it just did not "look" fresh. The wrap had a grey undertone and it did not look appetizing at all. Tasting it, the rice paper wrap tasted thick. Spring rolls are supposed to be light, this just tasted too heavy. The Bun Bo Hue lacked flavor and the pork meats within the soup tasted old and rubbery. I tried to eat as much as I can but at the end, I couldn't finish it. Bun bo hue is supposed to have a very rich broth made with flavors of pork as well as different pastes, spices and lemongrass. This bowl lacked it. I also wish they wouldn't serve their soups in clear glass bowls. It's just not attractive to see a mix of things floating in there. The glass gets hazy looking and it just does not look presentable. I really like this place but I just don't think the food was for me. I MIGHT try their pho in the future since that's what people go for the most.
