Quite a pricey meal. Regular Taiwanese dishes. They have truffle xiao long pau, which my friend loves. Located across from the Tamsui MRT station. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $600–800

The Shanghai-style vegetable rice was easily the highlight of the meal for me — simple, comforting, and full of flavour. It’s the kind of dish that doesn’t look flashy, but really delivers in taste. The stinky tofu would come in as my second favourite. It had that unmistakable aroma, but the flavour itself was rich and surprisingly enjoyable, with a texture that made each bite satisfying. The signature pan-fried dumplings, however, didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It really comes down to personal preference, but compared to the other dishes, this was the one I felt I could skip next time. That said, I’d still happily come back — the Shanghai vegetable rice alone has completely won me over. Next time, I’d definitely be keen to explore more of the menu and try some of the other dishes as well. Overall, it’s a solid option if you’re in the Tamsui area. There is a Kitchen Master location where I live outside of Atlanta, so I had to check out this original location in Tamsui. It took about an hour to get here from Taipei, but definitely worth it to try the fun and innovative menu. Of course, there are classic Taiwanese dishes. But, the really stand out dishes to me here are the creative soup dumplings and baozi, like their Takoyaki shengjianbao and their truffle xiaolongbao. You can watch the chefs make the dumplings fresh on the first floor, and they are always very busy with customers for a reason. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $400–600 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: My friend came with me that is vegetarian and there were plenty of dishes for her to choose from.
