A fantastic lunch! I had the whipped cods roe, grilled octopus and the chocolate Abd tahini mousse with cherries. The food was very good indeed and the service was friendly and attentive. It’s such a great spot - I’ll def be back to try out brunch or perhaps the prix fixe menu, which looks to be superb value. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I visited Kitty Hawk yesterday to celebrate my boyfriend’s 30th birthday. Before our visit, I called to ask if we could have drinks outside at 4:30pm before moving inside for our 5:00pm dinner reservation. The person I spoke to was very helpful and assured me this would be no problem. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. Despite having a 5:00pm reservation, we weren’t shown to our table until around 5:20pm, even after chasing staff. We had theatre tickets and needed to leave by 6:30pm, so this was stressful. There was no apology, nor were we offered menus while we waited. There also appeared to be several empty tables, so it wasn’t clear what the hold-up was. Once seated, we asked for water, which took a long time to arrive. We also asked our waiter to explain the menu, as it wasn’t obvious whether the dishes were small plates or mains. He wasn’t helpful, leaving us to guess how much to order. One of our three dishes arrived incorrectly. We told a different waiter, but he repeatedly insisted it was correct. I had to explain three times before he took it away. Our original waiter later apologised and admitted he had entered the order incorrectly, making the second waiter’s attitude even more frustrating. The food itself was just okay. At £15–22 per small plate, I expected much better. The portions were tiny, which also wasn’t explained. We weren’t that hungry to begin with but still left hungry, so we ordered a pita and dip before the theatre. When the bill arrived, I’d been charged for two pitas. If they’re charged per person, this should be made clear. By then I didn’t want to spend any more of my boyfriend’s birthday complaining. I’d also mentioned on the booking that it was his 30th birthday. I saw other tables receiving birthday desserts, but there was no acknowledgement of his. Overall, the service was poor, the food mediocre for the price, and the whole experience was disappointing. Sadly, it wasn’t the special birthday meal we’d hoped for.
