A MICHELIN star: cuisine of great finesse. Worth the step!

Water drawn from a well on the premises is where everything starts for Kiyama. Prix fixe dining begins with the service of plain hot water. The first infusion of dashi is prepared before the guests’ eyes, its aromatic fragrance and clear, refined flavour enlivening each simmered bowl... More info

Kiyama is an experience - kaiseki at its finest. The food is pure, clean, and astounding all at the same time. Each food brings about a distinct flavour, with none of them being over the top but subtle in its flavour. The service is kind and friendly, even though English is limited they try to explain everything to you. Sitting at the counter is a must, and I was able to do so through booking via the hotel I was staying at. A 3 hour long culinary experience, you will not be disappointed. Such an amazing experience. Arguably one of the best meals my wife and I have ever had. Unique food and wine pairings. Great creativity with classic Japanese dishes. I almost don’t want to say it, as I’m scared I won’t be able to get a reservation next time I’m in Kyoto, but it deserves a second Michelin Star. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The food was exquisite it, it might be favorite meal of my Japan trip and I was very satisfied by the end of the dinner. Chef Kiyama was friendly and spoke more to the Japanese guests but I figured that was due to it being his native language and perhaps they were regulars as it seemed like they knew each other but it wasn't an issue as he was jovial and warm to all of his guests. He isn't there the whole time as the restaurant has another floor for guests but it wasn't an issue as the other chef/staff were also great. When I was leaving for the taxi the staff stopped me for bit so he can come out and bid farewell and we exchanged our gratitudes so that was memorable and really kind of him. Service was great and the staff and other chefs were also friendly and thoroughly explained each dish. Overall had a great experience and dinner here. I think it deserves it's exceptionally high Tabelog score and Michelin Star! I definitely would love to return someday! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
