I had the pork bone ramen. The soup had no smell and the noodles were chewy and of very high quality. In particular, the char siew was thick and filling and delicious. Also, when I was having trouble with the payment method, they were very accommodating, so this is a place I would like to come back to when I visit Sacramento again. This was recommended favorite local Japanese restaurant for everyone, until now. I am here to update my former review based on my own recent experience. Kodaiko Ramen & Bar offers an extensive menu full of options for all diets, whether you are carnivore, vegetarian, or vegan. The items are clearly marked on menu and our server was very knowledgeable of veganizable items. In my past dinning experiences, there has been no issues getting a fully vegan meal. Recently, we ordered old favorites and a new one that I was very excited to try. The Tofu Katsu Donburi. This is clearly marked vegan on their menu on website but the paper menu did not indicate such. Our server was able to confirm that it will be vegan which was a relief because I was craving a good katsu. When the plate arrived, we noticed two things that were missed. First the tofu was not crispy as katsu generally means it is battered and fried. Second, the spoon was swimming in the sauce. For a expensive dish like this, you would expect clean utensils but nevertheless all it took was a quick wipe with a napkin. Half-way through the dish, I bite into something tough. The texture was neither tofu nor veggies. Underneath all the curry sauce masked what was a large chunk of chicken... I have been strictly vegan and plant based for over ten years. This made me extremely sick, both psychically and mentally. The staff was notified and offered their apologies. Mistakes happens but it is really unacceptable for this big of a miss especially in the case of allergies. No amount of compensation will rewind and restore the night. If you are vegan or vegetarian, beware of what's on your plate. It is very disappointing as this used to the restaurant I would recommend to all my friends, regardless of their diet.
