In Kyoto, we decided to try Unagi, and @gion_kon_lunch_nabe was our choice for this experience. Unadon (unagi rice bowl) consists of grilled eel fillet served in a bowl with cooked rice and they bring the eel from Lake Hamana. The restaurant offers a truly authentic Japanese experience. The barefoot entrance and seating arrangement in front of the counter was a unique experience. Watching the food being prepared was also gastronomically satisfying. The Eel Set is JPY 6,380 per person (starter, soup, pickles, main course, and fruit). The fish was excellent in terms of cooking and ingredient quality, and sauce balance. The starter was also good. Kumquat was served for dessert. The chef doesn't speak English, and it's not a suitable place for loud conversations. We definitely recommend it for the eel experience.
