Kureshima is pretty near The Kyoto University Museum. The menu of Japanese cuisine is to the pleasure of all visitors here. The patient staff works hard, stays positive and makes this place wonderful. Terrific service is a strong point that plays a great role for the success of this restaurant. When you enter this place, you notice the nice atmosphere. But Kureshima has been rated below average by Google.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was genuinely upsetting. We walked into the restaurant last night and were greeted normally by the staff. Even though we don’t speak Japanese, the owner welcomed us, a staff member seated us, and brought us menus, drinks list etc. However, while we were quietly reading the menu, the staff suddenly came back, made a “cross” gesture with their hands, and repeatedly said “sorry” and asked us to leave. This was confusing. If the restaurant only accepts reservations for the evening, why were we seated in the first place? There were clearly many empty seats at that moment, and no explanation was given initially. We were not informed of any reservation policy before being seated. I tried to ask if the restaurant was fully booked, but they only kept saying “sorry” without any clear explanation. Eventually, a staff member used a translator to tell us that they only accept reserved customers, and that they had assumed we had a reservation. This situation could have been handled much better. Being asked to leave after being seated and treated as customers is embarrassing. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
