First time here in Encinitas, the location of Versailles Cafe & Pastries is near a French Language Academy and a nail salon. It looked like a small place on Yelp, but when we got there they had ample seating inside and out. The space was very open, pink, and European-esque. There was an open kitchen so you could watch if you really wanted to. On the counter upon walking in they have a board which mentions the specialty latte flavors! And then walking further up they have French pastries that you can order as well. For take out orders you order at the counter. And if you're eating "for here" wait until they give you the menu and then choose where you want to sit. They will come by to see if you're ready to order or have questions. We sat down in the back corner, near the big mirror. I honestly couldn't remember the specialty latte flavors they had so I went with the iced raspberry truffle. Usually I enjoy iced raspberry white mocha so having it come out as dark chocolate was a nice surprise. I thought oh no, maybe I won't like it as much. But surprisingly it was perfectly balanced and delicious. My mom and grandma ordered the iced lychee rose latte which I was nervous for my grandma to try because usually she'd say floral flavors are weird in lattes. But she said it was pretty tasty and different! She prefers her coffee on the milky and sweet side so this was definitely for her. I tasted it and thought the flavor combo of those two syrups worked well and didn't over power one another. Although the flavor of the coffee was on the lighter side. My sandwich came out after a while, I ordered the Cannes Panini ($15) which consisted of: turkey breast, caramelized onions, bell peppers, mozzarella and aioli mayo. The sandwiches come with a choice of salad, potatoes, or fries. I went with potatoes and they were delightful. Tasted like it was boiled and then cooked in a pan till it charred up with rosemary. The panini was massive and I'd say you could share it between 2-3 people! In addition we also ordered the "raisin roll" aka pain aux raisins which came out to be $5.50 about. I think this price was such a steal! Especially for the size of the pastry. I find that many French places nowadays are raising their pastry prices from $7-8! They heated it up for us so that the top would flake nicely and the raisins wouldn't be hard and cold. This was a wonderful pastry and I would 100% get it again! The workers were very friendly and sweet! I believe the owner was there as well, perhaps it was the French lady with the blonde hair?? If not, my bad! This place was only about a 17 minute~~ drive from Torrey Pines State Reserve and I think it was well worth the drive out for lunch.
