After you have seen St Mary's Church, visit this restaurant. All the clients love wonderful French cuisine at L'Ortolan. Come here for nicely cooked filet américain, amuse bouches and canapes if you are hungry. Most guests recommend trying good pudding, petit fours and strawberry dessert. Delicious orange wine, champagne or cider are worth trying here. This place will offer you great tea, latte or tonic.

Choose between indoor and outdoor seating. Many reviewers find the staff nice. Service at this spot is something one can name fine. You will like democratic prices. The spectacular decor and exotic atmosphere let guests feel relaxed here. This restaurant is a Michelin selection and, as the 3 black knife-and-fork symbols denote, L'Ortolan provides excellent service.

Michelin Guide rating

Michelin selection.
Very good standard.

This spacious red-brick Georgian building – a former rectory – sits under a creeper cloak, surrounded by mature grounds. Modern cooking uses high end ingredients and offers interesting contrasts in textures and temperatures. French influenced dishes sit alongside those of a more British persuasion. More info

L'Ortolan was formerly a really fabulous place in a lovely setting. Sadly it is now closed and will probably be sold. On our last few visits it was looking very tired and in need of some investment and maintenance work on the building and decor. Very sadly the whole experience has gradually gone down hill, the food was still pretty good, some of the staff were excellent but the real attention to detail and the feeling of being exquisitely looked after had gone. It's obviously been fading away slowly over the years but we have some very happy memories of it in the past. Sad to see it go. I write this review with sadness, as the restaurant will be closing at the end of the month. I had the Chef's Experience, to be part of the kitchen for a day. I learnt a lot about fine dining, and also had the opportunity to taste the delicious food made there. I had a wonderful experience, the staff are impressively talented and friendly, always ready to serve and share their knowledge. It will be an experience I'll always remember. Another special mention to the baker, the bread and desserts were stunning! Service: Dine in Meal type: Other Price per person: £100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3
