Serviceable Mexican food for reasonable prices. This was my go-to eatery back in high school, and having visited it recently as a 4th-year college student, I can say that it kept up with the times. La Chingada Taqueria is a Mexican joint located in the Berryessa neighborhood of San Jose. My recommendations are the regular Carne Asada tacos ($3.33 each, $10 total) and the Horchata drink ($3.55). The place provides you with complimentary corn tortilla chips. Carne Asada tacos ($3.33 each) need no introduction; the ingredients are simple and speak for themselves. They chop the onions and cilantro pretty finely, and the carne asada meat has good texture and grilled marks. I certainly had better tacos for better prices, but I cannot argue with tacos that simply do their job well. The sauces they provide pack moderate heat, and they give you plenty to experiment with. I have had horchata in so many different places. More often than not, the horchata is not to my liking. However, the Horchata ($3.55) here consistently hits the mark for me in terms of balancing sweetness and nuttiness. Though they seem to only have one size, the size you do get is roughly 20 fl. oz. which is plenty of horchata to go with whatever food you've got. On an off-hour, the staff takes about 6-8 minutes with my particular order. They are really friendly people, and I have not had a bad experience with them in my time dining here. Speaking of which, there are plenty of open tables outside and inside that you can choose to eat out; I recommend eating indoors to check out their lovely wall design and flavorful ambience. Nearby parking lot is very limited. I would like to see La Chingada Taqueria up their consistency and quality more in the coming months. It is certainly a place I would visit every now and then for Mexican food whenever it's convenient to do so.
