La Cucina—where the tables are wobbly, and the pasta Carbonara... oh sweet carbo-blessed angel, the Carbonara is reason enough to move to Rennes, renounce gluten-free diets, and write sonnets to pancetta. I arrived with reasonable expectations and left emotionally dependent on a plate of pasta. First of all, the ambiance. Picture this: a charming half-timbered building that looks like it once hosted a sword fight, or at least a very intense espresso-fueled argument about soccer. Outside on its terrace, the waiters move like caffeinated ballet dancers—slightly chaotic. Now let’s talk about the Carbonara. This isn’t the sad, creamy stuff from a jar that haunts Dutch supermarkets. No, this is the real deal. Golden strands of fresh tagliatelle tangled in an eggy, glossy sauce with a yoke on top that could bring peace to rival nations. The guanciale (or was it very confident bacon?) crackled like it knew it was the star. There wasn’t a rogue pea in sight—just rich, yolky bliss and the kind of umami that makes your ancestors whisper “you’re welcome”. I took a bite and blacked out for three minutes. When I came to, I had written “CARBO-DADDY” on a napkin and was Googling how to adopt a chef. Cappuccino was fine, although mentally I was still emotionally married to the Carbonara. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I cry if they took the Carbonara off the menu? Loudly. In public. With hand gestures. Final score: Atmosphere: Rustic chaos (charming) Pasta Carbonara: A religious experience Likelihood I return: 11/10, possibly disguised as a fork.
