If you are tired of the tourist traps in the Old Port take a drive along the Mediterranean to this amazing seafood restaurant way off the tourist radar. This is where you go when you want to eat like someone who lives in Marseille. The views from the dining room are drop dead gorgeous.
I went here with my family from Marseille at the recommendation of my cousin Andre Colas. We stopped at the small bar across the street for a pastis to whet the appetite. At 8 pm, we ventured across the street and had the meal of a lifetime. Every dish sang an ode to the region and the sea. My bourride, which is the house specialty, was made with amazingly fresh seafood caught by local fishermen. A lot of people confuse versions of bourride and mistakenly believe Bourride Setoise (the white monkfish version) is the only true one. L'Esplai du Grand Bar des Goudes' is what I was brought up with and, most importantly, extremely tasty.
When I return in three weeks, this will be our first stop for some amazing bouillabaisse.
Easy parking, great beach to swim at nearby, worth a detour!
