My only problem with La Riviere is that it never seems to be open when I pass it. I guess it must mostly open for breakfast and lunch and that it closes not long after the lunch time rush. Fortunately it was open at breakfast time recently when I actually had a chance to go out for breakfast, so I gave it a try. It's tucked away near central station and it's not a huge cafe, but it is light and bright and a generally ncie place to sit. I ordered the full breakfast (for only £3!) and my partner opted for French toast. As we waited for our order several people popped in and out for a cup of coffee or a breakfast roll to go, so perhaps they do most of their business with customers who take their order away. The breakfast wasn't huge but it was very fair for £3 and came with a big basket of whole wheat toast. It was actually exactly the right size for me and didn't leave me feeling sluggish and overly-full the way large breakfasts occasionally can. The French toast turned out to be on brown bread which I thought was a bit weird but my partner said it was really good. So now I just need to get a better understanding of their opening hours and this can be one of my go-to cafes for light breakfasts and lunches.
