This place has been around for a long time. Sort of old school Italian.  Comfortable environment.  Not too fancy.  I wasn't expecting the food to be anything special but I was pleasantly surprised.  The mussels were excellent.  Large and cooked perfectly.  The white wine sauce was great.  We also had penne pasta with vodka sauce and shrimp.  Not sure if the pasta was homemade but the sauce was excellent.  Super tasty dish.   I also had the the seafood risotto special which was superb.  Overall the food was very flavorful and fresh.  Prices were not cheap but reasonable.  The waiter was fine but not very personable.
Homey, Italian restaurant with generous portions and celeb cred. A coworker from Chicago recommended I try this place as "this is the place where the mayor of Chicago takes presidents to eat at". The restaurant does take reservations by phone and so we had one at 6pm on a Thursday. We actually arrived there early at 5:30 but since there was no wait, we got seated immediately. If you do end up having to wait, there is a bar right next door however where you could hang out. The vibe was very homey and very Italian. The waiters were quick and made sure our waters were filled. We split the Spaghetti Loquercio which was a hearty portion for two people, although there is a split plate charge of $5. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and came with chopped up bacon, sausages, and vegetables like chopped onions. It was a bit on the oilier side but tasted homemade and fresh. The portion of meat was generous and coated the pasta evenly. They do give you white bread in the beginning with butter but I recommend using the olive oil if you're feeling peckish to dip your bread into. There is no basalmic vinegar however so just use the oil. The oil is light and airy. There are single room bathrooms available in the left hand side of the restaurant and it's a pretty cozy place. The walls are decorated with framed photos of celebrities who've visited the restaurant. Overall, I had a positive experience at this restaurant. It's an authentic Italian restaurant that was quite cozy. Come here for a date night or intimate dinner where you want to have hearty portions of carbs, carbs, and more carbs.
Amazing food in an interesting atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this place. The pasta with meatballs and sausage in a marinara sauce was one of the best I have had. Very accommodating staff.
