I was introduced to this place back in the good old days. You were shown some things on the tour that hinted at the slapdash fun of making beer. You were treated to nachos that were overflowing with ingredients and wonderfully priced. The swag shop had buckets of free bottle cap magnets. The live music was fun. And I kept coming back as those nachos started shrinking, and as the experience started feeling less worth the drive (two hours). Then they sold to Heinie. And I hadn’t been back since. This visit? A road trip that took us past Lagunitas. So glad we stopped. The vibe felt great. The new additions seemed like improvements. There were people lingering outside and there were seats inside as well. Couples, families, kids, and pets all wandered the property. We tried a few on-site only beer offerings. They were good. We ordered nachos, daring them to be good. You know what? They were actually good too. The swag shop remained, relatively speaking, well-priced. All in all, a wonderful visit. One suggestion? Put a big, goofy, sign above the bar in the indoor seating area that says, “ORDER HERE.” Confused patrons (we weren’t the only ones) become enlightened customers! While I still prefer the old days, I am happy to admit that Heinie hasn’t ruined the original place. Recommended if you are in the area.

My partner and I went intending to split a BLT. I asked for the aioli on the side, and food was brought incorrectly with the aioli on it. I told the server we wanted the aioli on the side, and I assumed he went back to have it remade but he came back 5 minutes later with a side of aioli, not understanding we didn’t want it on the blt. By the time we had our appetizer, waited for our food, and waited for the incorrect side of aioli, we didnt have time to wait for a remade sandwich, so I didn’t get to eat any of my entree. The food I did get to try was pretzel bites and they were okay. Very poor service overall.

The service was nonexistent, despite there being plenty of staff milling about. Went on a Saturday night, they weren’t super busy. The host sat us at a table with menus and we sat there for 10 minutes without anyone talking to us or taking our order. Finally got up to just order at the bar and that took another 5 minutes for them to get to the group in front of us, despite there being 2 bartenders. That groups’ server told them they can only order drinks at the bar. So we left. No one said anything to us while we were there or as we walked out. Doesn’t seem like they care to provide service, feels like they’re riding on their beers’ reputation.
