Michelin selection.
Simple standard.

Prepare for a sensory overload the moment you set foot into Lakruwana—the Sri Lankan hot spot is covered from floor-to-ceiling in murals, sculptures, flags, and more. The kaleidoscope of textures and colors is a welcome sight in an otherwise downtrodden part of the borough, as is the energetic owner who drifts from table to table... More info

Subject: Disheartened Customer Feedback and Suggestions for Improvement Dear Julia, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment with my recent dining experience at your restaurant on Staten Island. I have been a loyal patron since the inception of your first restaurant on Staten Island, through your move to Manhattan, and back to Bay Street, always enjoying the exceptional Sri Lankan cuisine you offer. However, my visit this Sunday was disheartening. Upon arrival, the exterior of the restaurant appeared neglected, with red tables cluttered against the building and a visibly dirty sidewalk. The entrance and interior were equally unkempt, leading to a less than welcoming atmosphere. Although the owner kindly recognized me and assigned a table, the lack of attention to our table and absence of a menu for ordering beyond the buffet were disappointing. The decline in service was evident when no staff approached our table for beverage orders. Additionally, the taste and quality of the food did not meet the high standards I had come to expect from your establishment. I strongly believe that a reevaluation of the cleanliness standards and service protocols is necessary to regain the former charm and excellence of your restaurant. Your personal presence in overseeing operations, along with a focus on cleanliness and customer service, can make a significant difference. As a long-time supporter of your restaurant, it is with regret that I state my decision not to return due to the unsatisfactory experience. I sincerely hope that you will consider these comments constructively and implement measures to restore the reputation and appeal of your establishment. Thank you for considering my feedback. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Warm regards, Lakshan Gunaratne Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $50–100

For a truly hidden gem in New York's forgotten borough, Lakruwana restaurant fits the bill! Beautiful ambiance, unique flavors, and the most intriguing bathroom decor makes it worth a visit. Food: 5/5.  While not everyone's cup of tea, the spicy and savory flavors of this cuisine are less heavy than typical Indian food. There is an underlying lightness to most of their dishes, perhaps because they use less beans/milk/flour. Love the lamprais rolled in banana leaves, very unique. The biryani is good too but you can find that dish in other cuisines too. Ambiance: 5/5. While not a fancy restaurant, the teakwood furniture and wall hangings transport you to another time and place. The outdoor dining was handy during COVID, but try to snag a seat indoors. And take your time in the restroom, the sayings on the wall are insightful and funny. Price: 4/5:  while not cheap, it's fair and you can get a meal for 2 people for about $50-$80 depending on drinks and how hungry you are.
