We had a very disappointing experience at Ristorante Le Caveau. We ordered two starters: a fish carpaccio and zucchini flowers with cheese. The carpaccio was a very small portion (less than 150g) and had almost no flavour at all. The zucchini flowers were only two pieces and were oily, with the cheese not really standing out. For the main courses, we tried two different pasta dishes, hoping they would improve the experience, but unfortunately they were even worse. Both dishes were very poor in quality and taste, honestly reminding us of basic school cafeteria food. Overall, the restaurant felt like a tourist trap, with mostly tourists dining there and no real identity or character in the food. We only managed a couple of bites before deciding to leave. On the positive side, the wine was good and the service was truly excellent and very professional. However, despite that, the food quality was so disappointing that we would not return. Not recommended for a romantic or special dinner. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE We appreciate that you tried to resolve the situation, and we genuinely recognize that your service was excellent. Our review reflected that. However, it's unfortunate that instead of simply accepting constructive feedback, you chose to argue with your customers and question their experience. A simple "THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK" would have been a much more professional response. Regarding the starters, we did mention our concerns to the servers. As for the pasta dishes, we only took a couple of bites before stopping because they were simply not enjoyable. We also have photos showing exactly how the main dishes were left after only a few bites. Those photos speak for themselves and reflect our experience. The flavours honestly reminded us of when we were teenagers learning to cook for the first time—very basic, lacking seasoning, and without the quality or care we expected from a restaurant in Rome. Calling the restaurant a tourist trap reflects our personal experience, not the fact that tourists were dining there. Being in a tourist area doesn't automatically make a restaurant a tourist trap—the food quality and overall experience are what led us to that conclusion. We appreciate that the pasta dishes were removed from the bill. However, based on our overall experience, we personally don't believe we should have paid for the meal at all. That is simply our opinion as customers after receiving four dishes that fell far below our expectations. What we found even more disappointing was being blocked on social media, which prevented us from responding to your comments or continuing the conversation. To us, that says a lot about how criticism is handled. At the end of the day, this is simply our honest experience. We encourage anyone reading both our review and your response to make their own judgment. We genuinely hope you take feedback like this as an opportunity to improve rather than responding defensively. We wish you and your team all the best. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review. We are sorry that our simple Mediterranean cuisine did not match your personal taste. However, your review leaves out several important facts. You finished both starters without making any complaint, and only after eating around half of your pasta dishes did you tell us that "nothing was good" and that you would not pay for them.Despite disagreeing, we removed both pasta dishes from your bill and offered to prepare something else. You declined. This was not mentioned in your review. As for calling us a "tourist trap" because there were tourists: we are located next to Roma Termini, 100 metres from Santa Maria Maggiore and a short walk from the Colosseum. It would be far more surprising if there weren't tourists — especially considering that you were one of them.We also find it inconsistent that you describe our service as excellent and professional, while the rating (1 star) you gave to our staff does not reflect your own words or the way the situation was actually handled.Alessia ------ Thank you for your further response. This will be our final comment on the matter.First of all, nobody blocked you on any social media platform, so we are genuinely unsure what you are referring to.Secondly, after expressing your dissatisfaction, both pasta dishes were removed from your bill without hesitation, despite having already been largely consumed. Our manager also took the time to speak with you personally, listened to your concerns, offered to prepare alternative dishes and even invited you to return in the future with a discount offer. We believe this demonstrates a genuine willingness to resolve the situation professionally. After speaking with our manager, you appeared satisfied with the way the situation had been handled. The conversation ended politely, with smiles and mutual courtesy, which makes your later account particularly surprising.Taste is, of course, subjective. However, our restaurant has never claimed to offer gourmet or Michelin-style cuisine. We are a family-run restaurant serving authentic Roman and Mediterranean dishes, and our identity is well reflected in the thousands of reviews we have received over the years. What still remains difficult to understand is the contradiction between repeatedly describing our staff as "excellent and professional" while leaving a 1-star rating for the service. Those two statements simply do not align with one another. Finally, while we fully respect every guest's right to express an opinion, we also believe reviews should present the complete picture. Omitting the fact that we removed the disputed dishes from the bill, offered alternatives and spent time trying to resolve the situation does not provide future readers with an accurate account of what happened. We have nothing further to add and sincerely wish you all the best. Thank you very much.
