If you want to know if Le Rescapé is a tourist trap, this review is not for you. I'm not entirely qualified to answer the question, but based on my experience at the restaurant, it definitely skews much closer to charming local eatery than insidious tourist trap. The most important thing to note is this: both the food and service are excellent. My parents and I ate at Le Rescapé for our first dinner in Paris, and I genuinely could not ask for a better first impression of presumably genuine French cuisine. The food is comforting and unpretentious. The flavors and presentation are nuanced and tasteful. Overall, the food is a good, heartwarming combo that is impossible not to recommend. BOURGOGNE SNAILS: Our first time eating snails. Surprisingly good, although it's the simply sublime sauce that makes the dish pop. If it's also your first time, good luck getting the snails out of their shells, muahahaha. ROASTED DUCK BREAST WITH PEARS: My main course. Very tender, very delicate flavors. Make sure your fork is getting the duck + pear + veggies together. It's like the Avengers assembling. TUNA TATAKI: What my mom had. She enjoyed it. I had one piece of tuna. I also enjoyed. My dad also had one piece - and you're not gonna believe this: he ALSO enjoyed it. MEDITERRANEAN-STYLE OCTOPUS: Extremely soft and supple. Arguably the best octopus my parents and I have ever had (and we're Korean, so that has to mean something). Highly recommend this as well. I also have to send my compliments to the really charismatic and nice staff. Again, if you're a stickler for authenticity, maybe it'll be a red flag the workers operate in the middle between French customs/norms and American customs/norms. Meaning, your server will not keep you hanging forever if you don't explicitly get their attention, but they also won't hover over you and constantly check on you. What matters to me, personally, is if they're competent and also nice (without being overly deferential). And Le Rescapé definitely hits the mark in that regard. Our server was awesome. Such a funny guy. My mom actually thought he was the owner, ha. Good times. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience here.
