I love Italian food, but I just do not not want to eat pizza, pasta and wraps every day when in Italy for a week or two. I don't really want to sit down and spend 2-3 hours drinking spritz and eating three/four courses all the time either. Sometimes, I just want an easy, fresh, tasty, well-cooked salad like what you can get in many cities around the world and Le Spighe is just that (rare in touristy Venice!) Sure, it's a bit pricey, but Venice is an expensive place all round and the prices are in line with what you would pay in major cities — and still cheaper than a regular sit-down meal in many cafes in Venice. It was my go-to place during my week in Castello for the Biennale and I wish I could've eaten there more often!

Nutritious prepared food sold by total weight. Pricing was not obvious though and my plate with a very modest helping was over 10 euros. Served on single-use cardboard plate with plastic fork. No glass of water available, we had to buy a plastic bottle and use plastic cups. I was with an elderly relative, and she found it very difficult to sit on the tall stools, and was disappointed no toilet. So some improvements could easily be made which might make it more popular and allow cheaper pricing. I would go again with younger vegan friends if in the area and they had plenty of money, but not a destination place which is a shame - Venice needs a nicer place with good food like this. They also sell some fresh organic produce and a range of vegan and organic packaged food to take away, I did not check the price of this.
