I am shocked and appalled at how I got shouted at by a member of staff today, who belittled me and my husband and was extremely rude. So in summary, I had a hospital appointment and we were very tired and on our way back from the hospital decided to have some time to unwind and relax. So decided to have lunch at Leadbellys (a decision I regret). We approached the gentleman at the reception who guided us to a table. We were advised that the table had to be vacated before 2 Pm. We were incredibly grateful, thanked him profusely and sat down. Now as we sat down, we had a large group besides us which had an extra guest (5 th chair who arrived late ) which made it a bit tight for us to sit alongside and also, the group were quite noisy and since I had a headache from the hospital procedure, I decided to very politely request one of the staff members (waitress ) whether we could move to another area. The lady was incredibly lovely and polite and said I could sit anywhere. After having being informed, that we were ok to move, I sat down on a chair next to the window where it was quieter. (No reserve sign placed on the table FYI).A few minutes later, my husband ( who was returning back from the wash room) was approached very aggressively by another waitress shouting at him about why we had changed our seating arrangement. Now prior to this I saw this (aggressive ) lady, the guy who was at the reception and the gentleman (Asian) looking in our direction angrily and talking as if we had committed a crime. It almost seemed like school girls who huddle up to bully someone ! I even saw them being angry at the lady who had kindly advised us to move ! Seems the aggressive lady is a bully who likes to bully customers and fellow colleagues too.But I ignored that only to have this very aggressive lady (waitress) walk up to my husband and towards me and start angrily shouting as to why we had changed our seat and she said some incredibly condescending, rude words angrily . She refused to listen to me and kept shouting at my husband. I was so shocked and was numb. The entire restaurant started looking at us and that was incredibly distressing . We felt humiliated as the lady didn’t stop angrily speaking to us. She seemed a bully and my husband just didn’t say anything. After angrily shouting at us, she returned to her bully gang and started talking about us (again). At this point, I couldn’t take it anymore as this is unacceptable behaviour. I got up from my seat and confronted her in a polite way and again, she started being rude and raising her voice . She started lying that she never said anything when her manager arrived but kept arguing !The manager was lovely and apologised but sadly that was too little and too late !Avoid this place as it has rude staff and the food is substandard. Seeing being humiliated, I wanted to leave the place but the manager was so polite that she took over the service and did agree that the aggressive lady wasn’t right to speak to me in such a condescending way ( thankfully she witnessed her angry argumentative conversation with me - just the tiny bit ).And when the food arrived, the burger didn’t have salt or any taste . I couldn’t eat it. The same aggressive lady ignored us when we kept asking for the bill, finally my husband politely asked her for the bill and she obliged ! And we paid her the tip too for her nasty behaviour So we paid a service charge of 12.5 % for the rude, condescending, appalling service !Canada Water residents avoid this place at all cost as you can gather from the reviews below. Staff are rude, food is below average for the price they charge. You’d be better off going to better placesI still am in shock about how awful the staff are. The roast is good but other food items are substandard !I’d strongly urge the manager and the owner to check the CCTV and see the entire incident ! We are locals and we live in Canada Water but have never experienced someone being so rude and nasty in the service industry.
They cancelled 2 for 1 cocktails because too many people were ordering them... what a crock of bull**** this place robbed me! Also took 20 minutes to get servedReply to owner: Wow I didn't know your staff were unpaid volunteers, how kind of them to work late... in a bar. I must take you up on your generous offer of FREE tap water, which probably tastes about the same as your Aperol Spritz :)
I am celiac and was excited to try the fish n chips at Leadbelly's in London. I was not disappointed. The food was great and the drinks were refreshing. Our server was wonderful. However, the highlight of the visit was a conversation with the manager, Annmarie Barwick, about gluten free food and beer. I am from Portland Oregon, where we have a few good GF breweries. At LB they had an English brewed GF IPA-- Fantasma-- which was great!  I asked Annmarie where to buy some locally, as I was headed up to Edinburgh the next morning to meet up with my brothers, one of whom is also celiac. Since it was a Sunday and most bottle shops were closed, she set me up with 8 Fantasma cans to go and even gave me the Tuesday 2-4-1 discount. I walked with 8 beers for the same price I would have paid at a bottle shop. Great service and good looking out for a GF beer lover from the US!  Cheers, Annmarie!
