This place is not what you expect when you are close to Plitvička jezera and mentally prepared for tourist food near famous nature. It is much better than that. And also a little more complicated, just to keep your ego under control. Lička kuća is a designed, almost boutique restaurant built around regional tradition: local food, local look, local identity, but dressed properly. It feels prestigious. The kind of place where you look around and think: Alright, this may hurt the wallet. Then it doesn’t. Which is always a beautiful plot twist. Get used to waiting. Food is cooked to order. And if, like us, you walk in completely ignorant and optimistic, you discover that many of the featured dishes need to be ordered at least a day in advance. This is not fast-food countryside cosplay. They actually mean it. Do not take this as a negative review just because the place sounds slightly complicated. Spoiler: this was one of the best meat-based late lunches we had lately. Delicious, abundant, well balanced, surprisingly addictive, and not expensive. Actually, surprisingly affordable. Which is dangerous information. By luck, there was an order mistake, and I was offered the lamb hamburger as the quickest main-course rescue operation. Man, that was a good mistake. Probably the best simple, complete item on the menu: rich, clean, perfectly matched with the sides, and large enough that I could not finish it. Absolute legend. For anyone born in this region, or carrying some bloodline from it, this place feels like an identity call. Not loud, not folkloric in a cheap way, just direct: meat, fire, tradition, skill. Message received. Service is genuine and kind, maybe not fully trained in that polished upscale-service theatre, but honestly I prefer that to someone explaining my plate like it has a PhD. The menu and dishes are clearly designed and controlled by someone who knows exactly what they are doing, or better should be doing in the kitchen. Next time, I will call ahead, order the signature dishes properly, and bring someone with me just to look heroic for knowing this place exists. Given that this restaurant is in the parking lot of the most famous national park of Croatia, we were highly skeptical. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Lika bundle and the lamb soup. They were both really delicious. The bundle can be thought of as a “Peka” option for people like us who have not planned very well. However, I would highly recommend making a reservation (we saw people being turned away after us) and ask for their Peka in advance (at least 3 hours). A large part of the menu can only be reserved in advance, so the choice is limited.
Some dishes, such as pleskavice, are not on the menu, so you don't know what you're going to pay in advance. On entering the restaurant, the head waiter said that almost everything was reserved, but even after 2 hours the restaurant was empty. Such games are dubious.
