A Disappointing Visit to a Once-Favorite Ice Cream Spot I recently decided to treat myself to a scoop of Chocolate Almond ice cream at Lics in Vincennes. It had been years since my last visit, and I was looking forward to revisiting a place I once enjoyed. I ordered a single scoop on a sugar cone through the drive-thru, and while the $4.36 price tag was higher than I expected, I thought it would be worth it for a nostalgic treat. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to those memories. From the very first bite, I noticed something was off about the flavor. It wasn’t the rich, creamy taste I remembered—it had an unpleasant, almost greasy undertone. Puzzled, I returned to the store and went inside, where the source of the problem became obvious: the entire shop had a pungent smell of old grease, likely due to poor ventilation. It was clear that this smell had transferred to the ice cream, completely overwhelming its intended flavor. I will say that the staff was polite and understanding when I explained the issue and promptly refunded my money, which I appreciated. Still, for the price of a single scoop (nearly what I’d pay for a half-gallon of store-bought ice cream), I had really hoped for a much better experience. Luckily, there’s a Culver’s right across the street, so I ended up enjoying a delicious Chocolate Custard cone for a dollar less. The difference in quality and flavor was night and day. I hope the owners of Lics take this feedback as an opportunity to address their ventilation and operational issues. This is a long-standing local business with a lot of potential, and it would be a shame to see it lose customers due to something that could be fixed. With some attention to these details, I believe they can restore the quality and reputation they’ve built over the years. Went to Lic’s in Vincennes tonight before 10 pm to order a banana split, was told no bananas so couldn’t make. Drove to corner store and bought bananas, arrived back at drive-thru at 10:02 pm, no answer on intercom although peeps still in store. Called store number and informed they close exactly at 10 pm, although website reads 10:30 pm. Asked for store owners number, given 812-424-3066, which according to my phone, is an invalid number. Obviously, either employees are running amuck or owner couldn’t be bothered to update website with actual store hours. Either way, have lost my family’s business. Customer service is very important and should not be taken lightly.
