What can I say that hasn't already been said about this place? I was told about this gem of a restaurant through reddit. As a west coast girl, I'm particular about my sushi. I maintain that Oakland, CA has some of the best sushi on that side of the Mississippi. For this side, I have found that this restaurant is up. Perhaps the best sushi in Pittsburgh. My boyfriend and I came in with empty bellies around 5:15, fifteen minutes after the restaurant opened. A party of five was before us, and we were followed by a few parties of two. Right away, we were glad we came early. This place fills up fast. I would plan accordingly, as weekend popularity should be expected. We were sat close to a window, the table was clean and set. Our server took a few minutes to approach us and offer waters, then gave us a bit more time to peruse the menu. My boyfriend ordered a fried chicken dish with veggies, I tried my best to get a diverse pick of rolls. I know that it's very American of me, but I couldn't pass up the Philly roll. I also got a discovery roll and a third one that was off the menu, as my original third pick was out that day. I don't mind 86's when it comes to sushi. You work with the fish you have that day, so I was more than happy with something mysterious. We also got a bottle of sake to share. Both meals came with the option of miso soup or a salad. We got our soup and salad first. His soup was wonderfully salty and piping hot. My salad was a typical restaurant house salad, but the dressing was something orange and tasty. The sake was served cold, which corrected my original assumption that it is always served hot. Ignorant American moment! Still, it is a nice drink for those who like their alcohol dry. I enjoy a good sake, oddly enough, even though my drinks of choice range more sweet. This was my boyfriend's first time, and he seemed to like it more as the bottle went. Our entrées took a bit of time, but the wait was worth it. I was told that the owner of this place is particular with choosing his fish and it showed in my meal tonight. Everything tasted fresh and yummy! The rolls were somewhat loose, but the flavor more than made up for that. I was in sushi heaven my entire dinner. The third roll was a great suggestion by our server, but the discovery roll was easily my favorite. My boyfriend's chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It came with a dipping sauce that was sublime. Good food and conversation, what more do you need from a Friday night? We sprung on dessert because we were full but not stuffed. The dessert menu is all ice cream, but they have it in three types. There were the mochi balls, the fried ice cream, and then your run of the mill scoops. We got both flavors of the mochi, red bean paste and green tea. They were a sweet send off at the end of the night. Altogether, our bill came out to 66.77 and our tip was around 16 dollars. That much food for two being under eighty before tip was a huge plus. The restaurant is clean and well lit, the atmosphere was more communal, I wouldn't take an intimate date here, but it's nice for a casual Friday date night. We were given hot towels for our hands before our meal, which was a nice touch! I recommend this place to anyone who likes quality sushi. Plenty of non-sushi options for those like my boyfriend, who aren't as keen on raw fish. Overall, a wonderful Mount Leb dinner spot for when you're not feeling the t into downtown. We will be back! I visited Little Tokyo restaurant with some friends last night. We did have reservations at 7 but they were really busy and we weren't seated till probably 20 after. Not a huge deal since it was just us girls and no kids, or husbands, to get restless. We had a nice area to just the 9 of us so even though it was busy and a little noisy we could all talk with each other. The Happy Birthday song that played over the speaker was obnoxiously loud however. I am not a sushi fan but all the rolls looked so pretty and my friends were happy with their choices. I ordered the chicken hibachi which was pricey but was good. The chicken and vegetables came out on a separate plate and it was all delicious. The rice was served separately so I just put that right on top. Very happy with my selection. I was however contemplating a ramen bowl. My friend next to me got it and it smelled delicious and was full of awesome veggies and ramen. She said very delicious and was also very happy with her selection. Our waiter was very attentive to filling our waters. The whole dining experience took a long time though. We were there about 2&1/2 hours. I paid cash. However the other 8 girls used cards. And the waiter added in his own 18% gratuity. Not everyone was happy about this.
