The nicest people as proprietors of this restaurant in the old city. Located next to a busy corner that is a bus stop for many of the lines running through the city core, it is easy for this establishment to be “wallpaper” for people on the move. And yet when you enter into the restaurant there is a definite change from the hubbub just a meter away. You are in the calmer and kinder time of a Montevideo reminiscent of decades ago. Especially for travelers who want to experience what a restaurant in Montevideo was like 40 years ago, this would get you close. The menu is traditional fare, well prepared and reasonably priced. The urban core has a significant number of poor people, and what makes Uruguay a great country is that ordinary people try to do what they can to help others in need. A homeless person entered the restaurant discreetly and asked the owner for food --- he was provided some bread and went on his way. This is probably a place Anthony Bourdain would have liked.
