Love's the atmosphere at Lokal. Inside is very clean with some 90's VHS movies playing on one side of the room. You can also sit by the windows looking out over the street and by passers. At night all the lights are on, you can hear music from around the corner which is very nice. The food was outstanding! I'm a big fan of the sweet potato fries, which were crunchy on the outside and a soft middle. There were two condiments that were brought out with the food which was very nice not having to ask for it. Staff recommended everything I ate, an to be honest I don't think they could have chosen wrong with anything on the menu. The key lime pie reminded me of Key West. If you know, you know. Tucked into Commodore Plaza with that unmistakable red neon sign and Coconut Grove graffiti mural, this place has personality, cassette-tape bar, bottle-cap art, VHS shelves, and a vibe that's equal parts dive bar cool and neighbourhood favourite. Manuel was a brilliant server, warm and full of life, he made us at home. His recommendation, Tropi Flaca, a local Wynwood brew, kept pace beautifully, light and crisp and right for a warm Miami evening. The Bang Bang Shrimp was straight-up addictive, crispy and glossy and coated in that sauce. The Frita By Kush burger is something else, guava jelly, potato stix crunch, bacon, swiss cheese and LoKal sauce on a perfect bun, messy and magnificent. My companion had The Classic, the burger we always hanker after, cheddar, pickles, mustard, mayo, and it delivered. I tried their new Brussels sprouts side too, sautéed in a sweet soy glaze with thick-cut bacon and onion marmalade, and it earns its place on the menu. Then the Kush Brownie Sundae to close, a fudgy brownie slab, vanilla bean ice cream, caramel and bacon crumble, outrageous. Great local beers, fair prices, and the check arrives in a VHS case. Manuel also told us they're leaving Commodore Plaza when the rent gets too high, but watch for them in Wynwood. Get here first, then follow them there. Norman is an awesome server. Used to come here years ago and the burgers are just as incredible as I remember. The Frita the perfect combination of sweet and savory, incredible use of guava. Delicious. Burger was also perfectly cooked. Sad this location is closing, but good to know a new location is opening in Wynwood. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
