Food is excellent, but they cannot make cocktails that aren’t on the menu (like a simple margarita) even though they have a bar counter. Not that the staff attitude was bad, i think they just didn’t have enough staff? they weren’t that friendly though. It’s a bit disappointing cause the food was great and the view is spectacular. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4

This is a tasty, westernized Thai restaurant with a good atmosphere and a great view of the city, but it's being brought down by service that left me unsatisfied. For example, we reserved online a table listed as '[Weekend Limited LUNCH] Window Seat '--the 'window seat' would imply a table next to the window, but what we got was a table in the hall section with one table next to us closer to even a view of the window. The website said you needed to order a 'window seat course' to get a window seat, but then why does it advertise that course I booked as 'Window Seat ' (in Japanese too)? This restaurant doesn't seem to be overly interested in taking care of the waiting customers outside, even though the servers don't look overly busy. Three couples lined up before the manager bothered to come by. I found this manager bureaucratic at best, and in some ways on the rude side. Some sort of mistake had caused me to fail to reserve a private room online, so I went to the restaurant a bit early to ask if it's possible to change the reservation to the private room. The manager said, in effect, the private room has a separate course that's more expensive (no problem), but the course needs to be prepared beforehand so it can't be booked on the same day (OK, understood), and even if I come to the restaurant directly to request this they can't do anything (...OK, but did the guy need to say this, as this was clear already?), and by the way your reservation is from 1:30 p.m. so we can't serve you yet--it was about 1 p.m. (I went to the restaurant early to ask if the booking could be changed, and wasn't trying to get in early--though the empty tables left me wondering if it would've been THAT difficult...). I found the manager to have the increasingly common problem among restaurant staff these days that they seem more interested in complying with restaurant rules rather than ensuring that customers are enjoying their meal. I've been to Longrain a few times in the past and enjoyed it those times, but the experience this time made me somewhat reluctant to visit in the future. I may be making a judgement based on the generally high standards of restaurant service in Japan, but I'm in Japan and have come to expect prompt and friendly service, which was missing.
