Luce was a revelation! It is a remarkable Italian restaurant with an extensive wine list that would excite enophiles looking for the perfect pairing. The food was fabulous and highlighted by the in-house made pastas and antipasti small plates. Our waiter Andrew enhanced our dining experience with his breath of knowledge on Italian cruise and wines and his expertise on the culinary creations crafted by Luce’s kitchen staff. Luce is a must stop for foodies visiting Portland. Price per person: $40–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We had three starters/salads: fava bean puree on crostini (perfectly grilled smoky bread); potato, olive, and pulpo salad (smoky grilled octopus pieces w perfectly cooked potatoes and pitted nicoise or arbequina olives with a lemony olive oil herby dressing); little gem salad leaves w a really good anchovy dressing, garlic, and bread crumbs (think under-stated Caesar). Pastas: Rabbit tagliatelle, extra wide, perfectly cooked handmade pasta w a light tomato sauce w herbs and tender braised rabbit. Gnocchi w pea shoot pesto. Pillowy soft gnocchi w a slightly minty bright green pesto. Both were amazing. We had 1/2 portions and shared. They were both so good we wished we’d had full plates. Special: hangar steak, cooked and seasoned perfectly. Dessert: rhubarb custard tart. The crust was perfect and the custard light and creamy. Perfect! Flourless chocolate cake was a bit dry, but the whipped cream was perfect and not too sweet. We shared a bottle of cava to celebrate an important birthday and the whole meal was < $155, not including tip. The entire meal was delicious and memorable in all the good ways. Price per person: $70–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I try not to eat here too often because I like keeping it special - and every time I go, it's special. Service here is exceptional (Andrew is an ever-shining gem!) which stands out on its own against many other Portland restaurants. The food is rustic and unfussy, charming, full of flavor, with variety aplenty. Congrats on 15 years, Luce, and I hope you'll be around for another 15 with this level of amazing consistency!
