I've had this place saved for a while now and finally got a chance today. Stopped by for lunch and the place just opened a little bit after 1100. Not really a hidden gem since it is located off a very busy street corner of Lomita Blvd. and Normandie. I say a hole in the wall, but don't let the outside fool you. The gentleman, (owner) greeted me with a warm welcome as I walked in. Small dining area but is very clean and organized. I ordered the Braised Pork Belly Bento and Oyster Omelet. The pork belly is tender, juicy, and flavorful. The bento comes with tofu, vegetables, and eggs. My only complaint was the portion size, I needed more since it was so good. The oyster omelet is tasty and authentic with enough oyster good for one. Everything tasted amazing, but I reserved the 5 Stars later. I need to try other dishes on the menu. Parking is very tight and difficult. Limited street parking is available. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

*** Holy cow a Chinese takeout place that actually accepts credit cards? Additional $0.50 surcharge if transaction is less than $5 *** Very friendly Taiwanese owner and no MSG, but food was somewhat mediocre using the 626 (San Gabriel Valley) standards. Currently this is the ONLY restaurant in Harbor City that serves somewhat authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Lucky Number 1 Chinese Restaurant has been around for approximately 4 years and their Panda Express-like Chinese fast food was inherited from the previous owner. The current owner added à la carte Taiwanese dishes like pork chop rice & oyster omelette. *** Pork Chop Rice ($7): Tender and soft pork chop, but seasoning was slightly salty. The bowl had more rice than I anticipated ... which made it a pretty filling meal. (3.25/5) Sun Moon Lake Iced Tea ($2): Tasted a bit like barley black tea - it had a slight tangy aftertaste and the sweetness was just right. Some people might say the drink tastes really diluted, but I think the drink is very balanced. I highly recommend it. (4.5/5) Pork Belly Rice ($7.50): It was pretty much the same as pork chop rice, except pork chop was replaced with pork belly. Pork belly pieces were sub-par ... and not to mention it was more expensive than pork chop rice. (2.5/5) Oyster Omelette ($7): It got the essence - starchy texture, Taiwanese sweet chili sauce, and napa cabbage. I wish there were more oysters, but overall it was a pretty authentic dish. (3.75/5) *** If you don't want to drive all the way to the San Gabriel Valley for super authentic Taiwanese restaurants like Sinbala ( yelp.com/biz/sinbala-res… ) and you simply just want to grab a quick bite that will satisfy your craving for Taiwanese food, then I wouldn't discourage anyone for giving this place a shot. P.S. - No public restroom & extra $0.50 for a small chili paste $0.50 & $1 for a large chili paste.
