We had dinner with 4 people on the terrace on August 17, 2024. When I publish a review of a restaurant, I don't go into detail about all the relevant aspects that make a restaurant get the stars I do. This is not a specialized magazine and I am not Matoses or Ribagorda, etc. I say this because Malabar Bistro has two very good things that a restaurant must have to be considered top. Or put another way, Malabar Bistro stands out in two aspects (very important, as I say) of all those that make up a gastronomic experience (as for some time it has been called to go to lunch or dinner - or breakfast or snacks or to a brunch or whatever swallowing involves :) - ) completely satisfying. The food is very very good, it could perfectly be a Michelin star. Pretty good attention. And that's it for the "top" (focusing attention on the top, without being exceptional). The place is nice, yes. It is also in the part of Becerril de la Sierra where you will not hear the sarao that could be in the center of town depending on the dates you go. They don't put cloth tablecloths, although they do put cloth napkins. Very normal glasses. Short wine list. They have some interesting references but with very little variety, both in production areas and grapes. It is true that they have some French wine, both white and red, but in such a short menu I don't see it as something worth highlighting. The prices per drink are high. It is clear that the Coravín has to be paid. Big mistake, I think. Bad bread. Also, dry. I don't know if it's normal or if it happened to us like that. I didn't drink coffee so I can't evaluate it. Focusing on the positive, the food is of a high level and the flavor combinations are very successful, without any sauce or dressing covering up the flavor of the main ingredient of each dish. The cooking point is perfect. Pretty good desserts (the ticket doesn't reflect what they served you, but it doesn't matter because the 3 desserts they had cost the same). I see CPR as fair, and someone could say that it is not good (that is, that it is an expensive place for what they offer). Anyway, because everything is so good, I think the prices are at their limit, due to what I have mentioned: everything else is missing, even though the service was good. The quantities... well this is also subjective. When you go to a Michelin star restaurant (even if it doesn't have it yet) you can't expect standard servings of chicken wings and hamburgers. They inform you well of the quantities before ordering so no one can be deceived. They have portions (for 4 people they are perfect if everyone wants to have their portion or part) and half portions (which are really half the portion). Anchovies, for example: 8 are included in the portion, so 4 people eat two. Which is good because they are not very big in size. Attention: a liter of water (they only have half-liter bottles) costs €4.60 Be careful, because the menu changes almost daily as we were told and only gizzards and anchovies are usually always on the menu (without anyone guaranteeing that this will always be the case). In short, we loved the food and were surprised because we went without any expectations. It is already on the agenda of the places to return to soon in that area of the Sierra de Madrid.
