My favorite restaurant in Toronto. The food is as beautiful as it is delicious. The service is warm and attentive without ever being too much. They have creative cocktails and an incredible sake list. The space is clean and elegant, yet still feels warm and inviting. It’s the kind of place I’d happily come back to with friends, family, or for a date. Simply the best! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Long time regular here and somehow just getting around to leaving a review! We’ve been coming to MARU for the past few years and one thing we really enjoy is that the menu keeps changing. We’ve tried so many different dishes during that time and always find something we love. On our most recent visit, the Nori Canapé was amazing as always. We also tried the pork belly and black cod and both were so good. The portions for the mains were actually bigger than we expected. The pork belly was super tender and almost melted in your mouth, and the miso sauce with the black cod was a perfect match. The team is always warm and welcoming whenever we come in. As someone who’s been enjoying MARU for years, I really hope you guys keep it up. See you again soon! :). Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–60

A huge thank you to our friends for introducing us to Maru Japanese Bistro and inviting us along for such a wonderful double date. They had been there a couple of times already and couldn't stop raving about the food, the cozy atmosphere, and the incredible service. After hearing them talk about it, my expectations were already pretty high... and somehow, Maru still managed to exceed every single one of them. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was exactly what they had described: cozy, intimate, romantic, with a beautiful French-Japanese fusion vibe that instantly makes you feel comfortable. But as incredible as the food was,(top tier!) what truly left the biggest impression on me was the customer service. I genuinely cannot emphasize this enough, it was some of the most exceptional hospitality I have experienced in a restaurant in a very, very long time. We arrived a little after 8:45 pm knowing they closed at 10, so it was completely understandable that they were running low on some fresh ingredients and a few menu items. Instead of making us feel like we were inconveniencing them, our hostess (I'm kicking myself for not catching her name!) was unbelievably transparent, kind, and accommodating. She explained everything honestly, then went above and beyond by checking and rechecking with the kitchen to see what could still be made that was already off the menu. Her attitude wasn't "we're out of this," it was, "Let me see what I can do to make this happen for you." That level of care is so rare these days. Now... the food. There was one salmon crispy nori dish, Salmon Nori canapé... I honestly don't even know how to describe what that first bite did to me. I've always liked sushi, but I've never been someone who gets excited over sashimi or larger pieces of raw salmon. This completely changed my perspective. The cubes of salmon were unbelievably fresh, buttery, and perfectly balanced. The second I took my first bite, every hesitation I had about raw fish disappeared. It was hands down one of the most memorable things I've eaten in years, and I would order it again in a heartbeat. the Miso soup felt like a soothing warm hug! The Hokkaido scallop dish was equally incredible... Smoky, delicate, with just the right amount of tang. The croquettes fantastic!! Katsu? Phenomenal!! Honestly, every single plate that came to our table was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. We had one tiny hiccup during the evening that honestly wasn't even worth mentioning, but despite how minor it was, they still insisted on treating us to ice cream on the house. That speaks volumes about how much they genuinely care about their guests' experience. I left feeling not only completely satisfied from the food, but genuinely happy. It's been such a long time since I've walked out of a restaurant feeling this impressed by both the cuisine and the people behind it. Maru Japanese Bistro has earned lifelong customers in us. We'll absolutely be back, again and again. Thank you for such an unforgettable evening. Your hospitality is truly second to none. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner
