This is such a quaint little burger diner that quite hidden from the more “touristy” Shimo-kita parts. We were slightly apprehensive entering the shop because it was clear the other customers were all locals. I was a little afraid my Doulingo Japanese would draw the ire of the one-man burger joint. Fortunately, the owner/chef was very gracious and polite, and spoke a little English. We placed our orders of burgers and coffees, and enjoyed the quiet vibes of the diner. There’s a lo-fi mood to Mary Stand. The burgers that were presented to us were visually stunning. The buns were grilled and had that little bit of glistening grease and crisp to them. The side of fries were accompanied by two onion rings. And each burger order came with their own salad that’s neatly packed into a small jam jar. The patties were got were very well cooked. Juicy and not over-done. The cheese and bacon really brought out the flavours of the ground beef. They didn’t taste anything like “fast food”, if you know what I mean. Loved Mary Stand.
