On a day trip to Whitby Bay and after walking up the 199 steps to St Mary's Church... and 199 steps back down.. a stroll to see the whale bones then fish and chips at the magpie... Whitby is well worth a visit.. and the Magpie Cafe is definitely a place I would recommend for food.. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £10€“20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Fish and Chips, Mushy Peas

Rudest lady served us tonight for takeaway. Ordered 2 fish butties and chips . On collection there was 1 fish butty 1 fish 1 chips . No problem we thought . Just add a roll/teacake .
Lady said …. You didn’t order that !!! Then threw a roll on to the fish … took a breath and then said … things are not free you know … you owe me 90p !!
WOW !! I truly hope she was having an off day .
Chips were fatty and grease dropped down your chin on each bite . Rolls / tea cakes disintegrated into tiny pieces . Very poor . Fish was better , quite thick and flakey but had definitely been frozen prior to cooking and our batter was heavy and greasy like the chips . So on reflection we will not return as have had much much better . But if you do go , ask for fresh cooked , avoid the chips and the very rude lady . No need to describe her as she will become quickly evident if she is on shift .
