We are foodies and have visited over 150 gastronomic restaurants across the globe, about half of them Michelin starred or on the 50 worlds best. So we know about food... Mahalo Cozinha Criativa is by far the worst restaurant i've ever eaten. I doubted long time if i should post the review, but it should be a wake up call for chef Ariana so i decided to post it anyway. We went there on January 8th, 2024. Perhaps we went on the wrong day. We went on a Monday, our last day in Cuiaba before heading back to Sao Paulo and onwards to Europe. The chef Ariani Malouf was not present. The place is beautiful and has a reputation of being gastronomic restaurant and the best in Cuiabá, so we had certain expectations. Setting is beautiful, but the rest... not so much. We ordered wine from the wine list, they did not have what we ordered, so ordered a different one. Not a very inspiring wine list by the way for this level of restaurant I would have expected a little better and there's a winery just around the corner, so they should perhaps work together to offer some more sofisticated wine list. Service... what shall I say... the staff needs training. We ordered couverts and starters and then 2 mains. The starters were not great, to be honest and the fish tartar not very fresh, but i can understand as it was a Monday, so perhaps did not have any fresh delivery yet for the week. But at least they could have cleaned the holder for the couverts, it was very dirty full of fingerprints all over (see picture). I'm sorry but do they not see this? These are no small details. We had not finished our starters yet when they brought the mains: octopus and lobster. As we were still eating starters (not even half finished) they just put our mains in the middle of the table!!! I was shocked and told them, hold on, this is not acceptable, we haven't finished our starters, but they couldn't care less, just left it there in the middle of the table, so i said; ok well if you are leaving it there, just take away the starters and couverts then. Obviously ZERO communication between the restaurant and kitchen, otherwise this cannot happen. The mains... a complete disaster! Completely overcooked lobster, so very rubbery. My husband did not even eat a quarter of his dish. The Octopus completely burned black. I'm sorry but i would be totally embarrassed to serve this. I tried, completely not eatable. And overall they should tune down the use of garlic as garlic was overpowering every single dish, all you could taste was garlic. They noticed we hadn't touched our plates and asked if they could serve something different. We both said no, but they insisted on serving the fish - pîntada - to compensate (and on THAT I will comment later). They also served in the meantime some starter which we did not ask for and did not like either, not good at all, but i tried one piece out of respect. The pintada was OK... but again... all you could taste was garlic. They then insisted we tried their desert, a cheese icecream, with a moelleux of dolce de leite. It was nicely presented and executed but the flavours are NOT OK. seriously, creative cuisine? i must strongly disagree. So, we just wanted to get out of there and really clean my pallet as so many unpleasant flavours. We are not picky eaters, i like all sorts of cuisines, meals, i am a experienced hobby chef myself and know about spices and combining flavours. But here it was a real miss and mess! We asked for the check and very shocked to pay this much for a crap meal, 1 starter and 1 couvert, a bottle of wine, 2 mains lobster/octopus and 1 desert; almost 1000 BRL... VERY EXPENSIVE for the quality and service you get. Trust me I am more than happy to pay much more if I get quality for what I pay for. And in terms of compensation... all dishes were charged, including the pintada (1 to share - to replace both the untouched lobster and octopus). You guys should truly be ashamed of yourselves. it could be a great place but needs serious improvements. Clearly if chef is not there, they cannot offer quality & service.
