On our wedding anniversary, we usually enjoy a different meal, but this year we went into austere mode and had lunch on Saturday. When I called to make a reservation, I was told that except for ``Mai Lunch (2,850 yen + tax), I could choose the menu on the spot, so I only reserved a seat. I was looking forward to going to this store as I had been interested in it for a while. It certainly doesn't stand out as the store looks like a renovated private house. 2 counter seats? It's a small store with about 4 tables in the back. But it doesn't feel cramped. My wife ordered the ``Easy Lunch'' (1,700 yen + tax). The presence of Kinzanji-yaki, which you choose from Kakuni, Sashimi, and Kinzanji-yaki oysters, shines through. There was also an assortment of tempura, pickled Japanese mustard spinach, thick fried egg, miso soup with tofu and green onions, pickles, steamed egg custard, and a bowl of thick rice. After the meal, we had the dessert of the day, mini pudding. I had the sashimi set meal (1,600 yen + tax). Assorted sashimi, pickled komatsuna, thick fried egg, miso soup with tofu and green onions, pickles, chawan mushi, and a bowl of mountain rice. Coffee after dinner. True to its reputation, Kinzanjiyaki was exceptionally delicious and my wife was smiling from beginning to end. Also, my wife often gets sick to her stomach when eating tempura, but she didn't feel that way at all. Is it common among women? I ended up eating almost all of my lunch, except for a small portion. The mini pudding in the cute bowl was also very delicious. All of the set meals, including the sashimi, are delicious and will leave you feeling full both mentally and physically. I thought it could have been a little lighter depending on the item, but I have my own preferences in that regard. The female clerk has a soft demeanor and a friendly chef. It's a really comfortable restaurant, with a relaxing atmosphere that's not hectic like a popular restaurant or pressurized like a high-end restaurant. During the meal, we were the only ones for a while, and later a customer who seemed to be a regular came to the restaurant. Due to the influence of the coronavirus, restaurants are closing one after another in Mito City, but this one is one of the restaurants that I hope will continue, and is truly a hidden gem.
