The place itself is located in the corner of this Chinese plaza (the one with all the massage spas where people probably go for happy endings). The restaurant looks decent enough inside and they have two sections of a dining room. The menu offers quite a bit and there are some items that you need to call in advance such as the Wintermelon soup and the Fried Chicken Stuffed with Sticky Rice.
I've had a variety of dishes spanning the several times I've gone and most have been OK, with a select few like the Fried Chicken Stuffed with Sticky Rice being pretty damn good. This dish is something you order in advance and please do as it's a pretty unique dish that Maple Yip does very well. The chicken is cooked wonderfully and all that sticky rice goodness feels like a beautiful blend of dim sum and dinner together.
They offer other dishes like Peking Duck, which wasn't bad, but there are better around. The flavor of the duck and the skin are definitely there (you think it's a give-in until you've tried other places). A lot of the skin was very oily though and they don't keep their pancakes steamed throughout so it can get pretty dry pretty quick if you don't eat it right away. Avoid dishes like the beef brisket cooked with bean curd and the fried shrimp and squid as they were done rather poorly. The brisket had a funky taste and the fried shrimp and squid were bleh.
And if you don't already know, make sure you come as a group. The best way to try Chinese restaurants like Maple Yip is with a larger group to sample dishes. I tell you this for Maple Yip also because there are no small tables. I came with a group of 3 once and sat at a table that could seat 8! Service is friendly enough and quick to make recommendations.
