The most impressive gelato. Idk how they do what everyone else does but better. I think their ingredients are probably great. The pistachio is unparalleled, it’s more pistachio than the nut. There was this seasonal nectarine flavour and a plum flavour sorbet I taste tested years ago that I haven’t stopped thinking about. They just capture the flavour of the thing and make it 100x intensity. The customer service isn’t overly warm but don’t be bothered by it, it’s the only thing standing between you and eyebrow raising gelato

I am a long standing customer of Mapo. It is my preferred gelato shop in Sydney. I am consistently praising it to friends. On Friday 10 July around 8:45pm I attended with my partner to order two servings for each of us. Mine was on a cone - two flavours plus the salted caramel topping. The woman serving me placed the gelato on the cone in a manner I can only describe as sloppy, such that the gelato was falling off the cone by the time I received it from her. In fact, half of the salted caramel topping fell onto the countertop in front of the cash register when I was trying to pay. Instead of receiving assistance for this, I was handed a napkin by the server and prompted to clean this up myself. This was inappropriate and disrespectful, on top of the fact that a significant portion of the topping I had paid for had now gone to waste. I had tapped my card to pay in the process of cleaning the countertop on behalf of the staff (who did not feel like it was their responsibility, despite their ineffective skills and failure to scoop the gelato in a structurally sound way). I didn’t notice that the tap hadn’t worked properly, and was prompted to return and pay. Of course I am happy to pay, but I was told to do so in an accusatory manner that suggested I was being dishonest and trying to avoid payment. I am an honest person and do not appreciate insinuations that I am acting fraudulently. I do not have time for it. I have never experienced this kind of poor and frankly offensive service at Mapo. I encourage the management to check the CCTV of this incident to verify everything I have claimed, and have a strong word to staff about this kind of disrespectful conduct towards customers. There was not an ounce of hospitable behaviour. You have lost a faithful customer.
