We visited Marrakech Restaurant as a group of three and chose the larger banquet menu, which cost around AU$80 per person. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Samak Tagine fresh, flavorful, and easily the best dish we ordered. The Lahrech Tagine and Djaj Maassel were both noticeably too salty, and overall most of the food was a little oily. The ingredients were good quality, but the flavors sometimes felt a bit muddled. The banquet started with stuffed dates and several Moroccan dips with bread. Unfortunately, none of the three of us enjoyed the dips. Dessert was simply vanilla ice cream with nuts and tasted like inexpensive supermarket ice cream. The restaurant owner came over to introduce himself, explain the dishes and share a little about Moroccan cuisine. He was genuinely warm, friendly and passionate, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the service from the waitstaff wasn’t at the same level. One of our drinks (lemon squash) had a small insect in the glass, and instead of immediately apologising and replacing it, we had to point it out and convince the waiter before it was changed. There was also a long wait between courses, and after finishing our mains nobody came to clear the table or bring dessert for quite some time. The biggest downside was the dining room. The tables were so close together that it honestly felt like we were sharing our meal with the people next to us. The waiters had to squeeze sideways between the tables just to get through. It was also extremely noisy; we almost had to shout to hear each other, and the lighting was so dim that reading the menu was difficult. Overall, I’m glad I experienced Moroccan cuisine and the Samak Tagine was excellent, but I don’t think the overall experience justified the price. I probably wouldn’t return, although I’m happy I tried it once. Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $60–80 Recommended dishes: Samak Tagine Parking options: Paid parking lot, Paid street parking
