Sumiyakiya Maruwa is an excellent B Located near Motomachi Station, it has the feel of an izakaya with a clear island behind it. Its speciality is Awaji onions, chicken, octopus and seafood, as well as the pride of locally sourced ingredients brought into Kobe. The onion okonomiyaki best exemplifies the restaurant, as it is not heavy in the usual flour-based way, but instead is shaped around the sweetness of one local vegetable. The food is more interesting than that of an ordinary drinking place, but not quite a specialist restaurant that becomes A through one perfect dish. The atmosphere is warm and local, probably at its best at night with drinks and shared dishes. For someone who doesn't drink, the main focus of the restaurant shifts slightly. I would visit for the food rather than the bar: onion okonomiyaki, octopus, charcoal-grilled Awaji chicken and one seafood dish. This is a Motomachi izakaya where Awaji is the focus.
