The food last Sunday was not good. The old cooks I know taught somebody but Somebody lost it. Turkey wings was just okay could use more seasonings. Maybe clean then soak your wings in season over night. Doesn't mean salt just onions and green bell peppers,a little salt and black pepper of celery would help and olive oil. Healthier too. The ora gumbo was nasty, looked good but spoiled. You have to be careful when adding onions in food. I tried to get in touched with someone but never did. My classmate Ida is gone and probably many others good cook but ya'll lost it. Ya'll use to be good. Rate 1

Came here years ago on a Friday afternoon but it was closed. Sad. But I came back again years later, determined to try a hidden jewel. The location is outside the city and you would need to drive from the city center. The cafe is to the right of the church, with a glass door that's in-between the restaurant and church building. I had heard the fried chicken was excellent and was aiming for that. Sadly, the restaurant ran out so I went for plan B: braised oxtails. The oxtails were fantastic: full of savory flavor swimming in a really nice gravy that wasn't too thick. Putting it on top of my red rice made for wonderful comfort food. The red rice, which wasn't mushy at all, had a bit of tartness and there was a fairly substantial tomato flavor to it. The other sides were more pedestrian. The braised cabbage was rather bland and lacked any personality. I only ate it because I needed to feel better for myself that I ate some vegetables. The mac n' cheese wasn't creamy but it was passable. The mac was more like a casserole. Service was friendly throughout and professional. It's a church cafeteria that's actually worth going out for.
