I visited Matii Rooftop recently, and overall, it was a mixed experience. There are definitely things to appreciate, but also a few aspects that could be improved. Let’s start with the positives. The view is genuinely lovely, especially around sunset. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to unwind while enjoying a panoramic cityscape. The ambiance is well thought out—modern, sleek, and stylish. The furniture looks good and matches the overall vibe of the place. However, while the chairs fit the aesthetic, they’re not very comfortable, especially if you’re planning to spend more than an hour or two. For my order, I had a Perrier, shisha (Two Apples flavor), 8 pieces of sushi, a single shot of espresso, and a cocktail. The shisha setup was clean and appeared new, which is always appreciated, but the flavor didn’t deliver as much as I expected. It lacked depth and didn’t last very long, though I’d still give it an 8/10 for the effort and cleanliness. The sushi was decent—not the best I’ve had, but fresh and presented nicely. I’d rate it around 7/10. The espresso was well-pulled, strong, and served hot, which I appreciated. The cocktail was refreshing, and you can tell they pay attention to their drink presentation. What really stood out to me was the service. Our waiter, Alaa, was absolutely fantastic. Courteous, attentive, and professional, he really elevated the experience. Thanks to him, we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. Now, on to the less positive side. One of the most noticeable issues was the pricing and tax structure. In Jordan, cafes typically charge 5% service and 8% tax, but here, the total tax was over 18%, which was surprising and honestly a bit off-putting. Combined with the already high base prices, the final bill felt quite steep compared to similar rooftop or lounge experiences in Amman. To give you an idea: • Perrier: JOD 3.267 (all inclusive) • Shisha: JOD 8.4 (all inclusive) • Sushi (4 pieces): JOD 6.534 (so 8 pieces was double that) • Espresso (single shot): JOD 2.376 • Cocktail: JOD 7.128 These are not outrageous prices for a rooftop, but when you factor in the high taxes and compare them to the quality and quantity of the items, it starts to feel overpriced. All in all, Matii Rooftop is a nice place to visit occasionally, especially if you’re going for the view, ambiance, and a drink or two. But if they want to build a loyal customer base, they should consider re-evaluating their pricing strategy and tax transparency. With a few tweaks, this place could become a go-to spot in Amman’s rooftop scene. Would I come back? Yes, from time to time—mainly for the atmosphere and the good service. But for regular visits, I’d wait to see some improvements, especially in flavor consistency and pricing structure. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Other Price per person: JOD 25–30
