I genuinely struggle to find enough superlatives to describe the experience at Matriarca in Porto. I had visited once before for a quick dinner with colleagues and was already pleasantly surprised by how exceptional everything was. This time, I booked a table for two and the experience last Thursday evening exceeded every expectation. Every member of the team was warm, attentive and professional, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. A special thank you to Inês, who truly went the extra mile and elevated an already wonderful evening into something memorable. The decoration and atmosphere were absolutely spot on. Just like the food, the space feels elegant and classy without ever being over the top. It strikes that rare balance between sophistication and comfort, making you feel special while remaining genuinely welcoming. As for the food, words hardly do it justice. What makes this restaurant so remarkable is not simply the quality of the ingredients, but the way flavours are combined with such creativity, balance and confidence. Every dish felt thoughtful, refined and full of character. The chef and the entire team deserve all the recognition and success that comes their way. If you are visiting Porto, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to one of the city's finest culinary experiences. You will not be disappointed. What makes it even more exciting is knowing that the menu is continuously evolving, with the chef regularly refining and reinventing dishes. That alone gives us every reason to return. A very private wine tasting that made the entire experience feel truly exceptional. We chose “Chapter 1,” which was a perfect introduction to the world of Portuguese wine. Tina, who hosted the tasting, was incredibly present and engaging. She generously shared her expertise as a sommelier, along with unique and fascinating stories about Portuguese wines. She also took the time to thoughtfully answer all of our curious questions. The surroundings were beautiful and with a warm and inviting atmosphere. All in all, a fantastic wine tasting experience that is absolutely worth trying—especially if you’re curious about Portuguese wine and its history. In addition, the venue features a wonderful wine bar where you can enjoy the family’s wines. The service is attentive and highly knowledgeable, offering excellent guidance throughout.
