I visited Tempura Matsushima, a restaurant that I had been interested in for some time. It was after 12:00 on a weekday, and the place was full with me. It's a small shop with a counter for 3 people and 2 tables for 2 people. The tempura bento is very reasonably priced at 520 yen (tax included), so orders kept coming in one after another while we were in the store. This time, I got the orthodox Tendon set for 710 yen. It seems that you can put in and take out up to two default items, so you can customize it to your liking. A large bowl of rice costs 30 yen more, and a small bowl costs 20 yen less. It was served within 10 minutes after ordering. The tempura had a thick, fluffy batter that reminded me of the tempura I had in Okinawa. There's a lot of sauce on it, but it still has some crispy texture. The rice was a normal portion and was enough to fill me up. The sauce has just the right balance of salty and sweet, and the rice goes well even with just the sauce. It was very satisfying as a quick lunch tempura bowl. Payment is by cash only.
