Concise Takeaway Max’s Robinsons Place Manila offers solid, dependable cakes: not artisanal, but comfortingly familiar, well‑packaged, and easy to transport to UM. Their cakes are known for balanced sweetness, moist texture, and good value. Cake Quality & Best Options • Chocolate Cake — Moist, classic Filipino-style chocolate; not too sweet; travels well. • Caramel Bar Cake — Based on their famous caramel bars; nostalgic flavor; great for sharing. • Black Forest — Light cream, cherries, and chocolate shavings; a safe celebratory choice. • Ensaimada Cake — Soft, buttery, and unique; good for morning events or merienda. Max’s cakes are generally dense enough to survive transport, which is helpful if you’re walking or commuting to UM. ️ Location & Convenience • Branch: 4th Floor, Robinsons Place Manila, Pedro Gil St., Ermita • Distance to UM: ~1.5 km (8–10 minutes) • Take‑out Friendly: This branch offers takeout service and is known for efficient packaging. Why It Works Well for University Events • Affordable compared to boutique cake shops. • Familiar Filipino flavors — easy crowd-pleasers for students and staff. • Reliable availability — Max’s cakes rarely run out except on major holidays. • Good packaging — boxes are sturdy and easy to carry around campus. Price Range (Typical) • Whole cakes: usually ₱450–₱850 depending on flavor (inferred from typical Max’s pricing; exact prices vary by branch). • Slices: ₱120–₱180. Pros & Cons • Pros — Reliable quality, good packaging, close to UM, balanced sweetness. • Cons — Not artisanal; limited premium flavors; peak hours can slow takeout service. I recently dined at Max's Restaurant with my family, and unfortunately, the service we experienced was very disappointing. We were a group of seven, and despite it being noticeable that we lacked plates, no staff member made any effort to assist or provide additional tableware unless prompted. The servers appeared disengaged, spending time conversing among themselves rather than attending to customers. While I understand that larger groups may require more attention, it was disheartening to feel overlooked as our table did not receive the same level of service. Additionally, we were not served water, and some of our side dishes and dips were forgotten entirely. These are basic aspects of service that significantly affect the overall dining experience. I hope the management can address these concerns and improve the attentiveness and professionalism of their staff moving forward. Meal type: Dinner Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
