Well, what to say, food is great and I would say solid, nothing too fancy or unique for Italian cousin but the dishes are of great quality and the staff know what they are doing, nice selection of wines as well, and I know not many people care but they have complementary bread and oil at the start of your meal, something in Italy is customary but in Australia you pay for, so this is an extra point for them.

Merchant Osteria Veneta is one of those Italian classics that never fail - sometimes forgotten, it's one of those places that every time you go you think to yourself "now why don't I come here more often". Tucked under Rialto, it's a bit tricky to get to with all of the renovations, but don't let that stop you if you're in the mood for an Italian feed. The venue itself has as much character as the food - with graffiti on the walls, an eclectic array of colours, and an open kitchen on display, it's hipster cool, but not so much that you feel like you have to be raised in Fitzroy to feel at home at this place.
