Lovely little find nestled into several shops on the front of Ashurst road. Great seats Infront of the fire. I believe a small menu is typically a good sign and this place conforms to my belief. Lovely food on two occasions. Nice coffee too. Cakes look amazing and the couple next to me certainly seemed to be enjoying theirs. Apparently the doughnuts are the ones to try. My only point of concern is the high chairs which aren't very comfortable. However we will be back. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Merritts Coffee Lounge is a friendly cafe in Ashurst. With its roaring fire and comfy seating, it’s a great place to have a coffee and warm up after a winter walk. The menu offers a range of homemade brunch items, as well as delicious cakes. Although it didn’t look exciting, the omelette I had for lunch was absolutely fantastic. My husband had the skillet crumpet with trout, and raved about it. The service was very friendly and welcoming, and it was a great place to start or end a range of lovely New Forest walks. Overall I had a great visit, and if in the area again I would 100% return. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Firstly, the food is amazing and there will be a wait due it being cooked fresh and properly (which is fine because it’s worth the wait!) . It’s not a fast service but we know that. However, today me and my partner went for breakfast and had no welcome as we walked in, found a seat and waited patiently but after 10 mins we asked the couple behind us if we could look at the menu as we hadn’t been offered one. We then ended up waiting nearly 45 mins to order and a group who came in after us were served before us. We completely understand it was maybe extra busy today but we would have appreciated a little heads up. Just a ‘hello, take a seat and I’ll be with you as soon as possible but please note we are busy so if you’re happy to wait then great, if not then we understand ’ … which would have been fine and we could have made a decision to wait (which would be our choice) or to go elsewhere if we didn’t have time. The owners are lovely, friendly and it’s no criticism on how they run the place, but I do feel they may need extra help or to maybe not allow too many in at once if they can’t cope with the demand. It got a bit too crowded for our liking and seemed to be a bit hectic. Over an hour total from sitting down to getting our food. I’m hoping it was a one off. Just please ensure your customers are always greeted when they walk in and given a menu and maybe be made aware during busier times / longer waits.

We will be back as it’s a lovely place with delicious food and a friendly team.
