If you’re the type of person who loves food, and dreams of having a best friend chef who invites you over for dinner, then Milprée is for you. The restaurant is named for a critter gardeners know well and it is clear the chef understands the garden, taking seasonally fresh vegetables and fruits and elevating them through inventive combinations that celebrate the union of flavors. Our dinner started with a silky herb-forward chilled soup accentuated with a touch of chili oil, delivering perfect balance. It was followed by a spring cabbage roll with crunch and mild sweetness, like spring on a fork and a bonito dish that oozed umami and brine. Our dinner was an exquisitely cooked duck with cherries and spring potatoes, a dish so simple and skilled it could only come from a team supremely confident in their vision. I could go on, but just trust me. Stay for dessert, In a city that can seem to be drowning in butter and pork fat, Milprée welcomes you into a garden with a friend.
